For the second artwork feature from Earth Made, I have chosen to focus on a selection of handmade Linen earth vessels I made paying homage to materials and their source landscapes that have featured recurrently in the research and making process for Earth Made. 

Each one has been constructed from Irish Linen, dyed with different plants or coloured with earth pigments, stitching and layering has created form. Each one is combined with organics derived from the landscapes that inspired them

Earth Vessels L-R


Contained - ochres and wild clays on Irish Linen, encasing birch branches. Layers in the land.



Harvest - Gathering with purpose. Grass seed heads, flax seeds heads and stitched flax roots, Mallon Linen felted rough Flax tow from Mallon Linen.

Liminal - the borderline between land and water. Where magic happens. Otherworldliness. Phragmite and preserved flowering reeds

 

Furze- Rock and thorns juxtaposed with the soft yellow blossom and delicate scent of this symbolic bush from the Old Irish Tree List



Seordán - the gathering of bark, oak dye and ink, the rustle of leaves and the sway of branches above.
